Easter Festivities

The week leading up to Easter we really wanted to focus on the real meaning of Easter. We read some scriptures verses of the Easter story. Though our intention was there we didn’t quite make it the whole week, we will shoot for next year again! It was comforting to know that when we asked why we celebrated, Easter they could tell us!

Last year the kids had Easter pictures done with little chicks so I thought it would be fun to do something similar. My friend has a bunny and was happy to let us borrow the little guy for a little photo shoot. Holly loved him and JD wanted nothing to do with him.

IMG_9015 pure joy They had enough picture taking! Best friends! IMG_8988 My favorite! JD wasn't so sure, Holly was trying to convince him! Watching the bunny jump around. IMG_8950

The kids and I were invited to make peep houses with our little friends Friday. I think they had more fun eating the little decorations because it was more work for us moms! We had a fun time together.

What a cute girl. JD was so excited about his house.

Saturday morning the ward had the annual Easter egg breakfast and egg hunt. Breakfast was followed by the primary singing, “I Wonder When He Comes Again.” Holly and JD stood in the front row and sang their little hearts out. I love when they sing primary songs, I usually have a little mommy moment when they do.

After Grandma got home from work we went and dyed Easter eggs and played a little hopscotch in the driveway. Watching almost 4 year olds learn how to play is really fun! Grandma’s neighbor was having a party and there was a jumpy house for the kids. My kids were really envious and with Grandma’s help got in! It made their day!

I loved how Holly jumps! hopscotch fun so focused and even more focused sweet smile teamwork little hands I don't know what was funny but love this picture Holly's funny pose who needs a spoon when you have fingers our finished eggs

Easter morning the kids woke up to jelly beans in the silverware drawer and hidden baskets. Holly’s was in the wine food storage and JD’s was in the oven. They were so excited to find them and then to tell everyone where the Easter bunny hid them.

Love my eternal family

Church was wonderful as usual. Wonderful sacrament talks and I taught relief society. I’m grateful for my Savior, His sacrifice and resurrection that makes it possible for families to be together forever. I love being reminded of the gift He gave me, everyone.

I’m gonna try to get back on the blog thing. I’ve taken a lot of pictures recently and Holly and JD are growing fast.

We were excited to celebrate Easter this year. I found an Easter book that we read a lot to help the kids understand that Easter isn’t really about bunnies, eggs and candy. I was surprised that they really enjoyed the book and when someone asked them who we celebrate at Easter they would respond with “Jesus” and “He was resurrected.” Puts a smile on Mommy’s face!

Grandma Hopkins took them to Build A Bear again and they chose the chipmunks with a Darth Vader outfit and a Cinderella dress. Very fitting for the stages of life these two are in. Very boy and very girl!

During Priesthood session of conference the girls went to the mall and took the opportunity to visit the Easter bunny. The only way Holly and JD would sit on his lap was if I did with them. I think Wesley’s face says it all. Jim and I were in charge of the Easter egg hunt at church. Wasn’t very hard. We bought some eggs and candy and made the young women fill them. All 500. The primary and nursery kids had a really fun time. Holly and JD ate their candy before we even got to the car to go home. We dyed Easter eggs at Grandma’s house on Easter after church and had another hunt. A really big one. We had to bag up the candy and hide it high away. I think we still have some hiding somewhere.

Easter Celebrations

I was excited this year to see how the kids would react to another fun holiday. We started the festivities with a ward pancake breakfast, Easter bunny encounter and egg hunt. They loved the pancakes, hated the bunny and thought the hunt was the coolest thing ever. JD went with Daddy and held onto his basket all the while collecting as many eggs as he could. Holly on the other hand found an egg or two and realized there was candy in it. I had to keep her on track to collect some more eggs.

Grandma had us over to dye Easter eggs and enjoy another egg hunt or two. Holly and JD thought it was pretty fun to drop the eggs and hear them crack. Johnny hid the filled eggs in the backyard and we watched as JD carefully carried his basket and Holly carefully opened each egg to eat more candy.

Sunday morning the Easter bunny visited with baskets filled with stickers, stuffed animals and more candy. We got dressed in our Sunday best, looked at pictures of Jesus and went to church to celebrate the true meaning of the day. How thankful I am for the atonement and resurrection of my Savior. And for the peace and hope it brings to my life.
